An Elusive City colt out of the Star Way mare Strawberry Affair brought a sale record price of NZ$90,000 ($62,000 in U.S. funds) during the opening session of the New Zealand Bloodstock festival yearling auction Feb. 7 at Karaka. David Cole purchased the colt from Tamika Lodge.

"He's a rangy type of Elusive City with a lot of scope and a lovely shoulder and top line,” Cole said. “He'll make a great late 2-year-old/early 3-year-old and will be trained by Wexford Stable's Andrew Scott in Matamata."

The session’s results included a gross of NZ$2,730,050 ($1,880,800) for the 169 horses that sold. The average price was NZ $16,154 ($11,130), and the median price was NZ$11,000 ($7,580). The clearance rate was 72%.

The average was up 34.7% from last year’s figure of NZ$11,997 for the entire auction.
