Hamdan al Maktoum's Sakhee scored an impressive seven-length triumph over Grandera and Medicean in Tuesday's Juddmonte International (Eng-I) at York, England. The Kentucky-bred son of Bahri was ridden by Godolphin Stable's regular rider Frankie Dettori as the pair raced just off the leader until three furlongs remained in the 1 1/4-mile turf test. At that point, Sakhee showed a quick turn of foot that took him to the front and he carried for the final margin. The final time was 2:08.27 over a course labeled "good to soft in places."
The 7-4 favorite in the eight-horse field, Sakhee posted his sixth win in nine career starts. Now trained by Saeed bin Suroor, Sakhee won three stakes, including the JWE Telecom Dante (Eng-II), as a 3-year-old of 2000, when he was also second in the Vodafone Epsom Derby (Eng-I).
