Canadian Graded Stakes Announced for 2010

Following a review by the Canadian Graded Stakes Committee on Jan. 30, 35 races in Canada were given graded status for 2010, the Jockey Club of Canada announced today.

Michael Byrne, chairman of the Canadian Graded Stakes Committee, announced that five races received grade I status, nine races received grade II status, and 21 races were given grade III status.

Two changes were made from the 2009 schedule:  the Nearctic Stakes, a premier fall event for turf sprinters, was upgraded from grade II to grade I status, and the Scotts Highlander Stakes, another turf sprint, was upgraded from grade III to grade II.
