Prince Bobby B., a California stakes winner in the mid-1980s, died Jan. 19 of a heart attack in his paddock at Ann and Matt Springman’s Spring Manor Thoroughbreds near Dunnellon, Fla. The 27-year-old son of King Pellinore out of the Riverman mare Riviere Bleue had been with the Springmans since 2000. The couple had gotten Prince Bobby B. from David Bernstein, who owned and trained him.
Bred in Kentucky by Paul Lerner, Prince Bobby B. scored his major win in the 1987 Sierra Madre Handicap (gr. IIIT) and set a course record of 1:34 1/5 in winning the 1987 Oceanside Stakes on turf. During his 29-race career, he won or placed in nine stakes.
