Informed Decision left no doubt who was boss of the female sprint division. She won six stakes, three of them grade I, including the climactic Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint over defending winner Ventura. Best of all for her fans is that owner George Strawbridge Jr. has decided to race the 5-year-old daughter of Monarchos this year.
“She is in light training after having been given some time off after the Breeders’ Cup,” said Hall of Fame trainer Jonathan Sheppard, who has her at his Ashwell Stables near West Grove, Pa. “She survived the ordeal of last year’s racing and seems to have plenty of gas in the tank.”
Informed Decision isn’t the only one of Strawbridge’s female champions to stay in training. Six-year-old Forever Together, the 2008 champion female turf runner, also is with Sheppard. The conditioner plans to send both distaffers to Camden Training Center in Camden, S.C., in February and get them ready for the Keeneland April meeting.
At Keeneland in their 2009 debuts, Informed Decision won the Vinery Madison Stakes (gr. I) over Ventura, and Forever Together took the Jenny Wiley Stakes (gr. IIT).
After the Vinery Madison, Informed Decision captured the Humana Distaff Stakes (gr. I) at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) day and the Chicago Handicap (gr. III) at Arlington Park before finishing third in the Ballerina Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga over a sloppy track. She rebounded to win the Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes and the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (gr. II) at Keeneland prior to the Breeders’ Cup.
Bred in Kentucky by Drs. Charles Kidder and Nancy Cole, Informed Decision is out of the His Majesty mare Palangana, who is booked to major sire Medaglia d'Oro in 2010.
“They match physically, and we think she deserves (a stallion like him),” Kidder said. “We’re sending Informed Decision’s younger (half-) sister Tattoo Molly to Monarchos.”
First-place vote totals: Informed Decision, 222; Ventura, 6; Game Face, 1; Indian Blessing, 1; Music Note, 1; Diamondrella, 1.
