Grade II winner Exclusive Praline was euthanized Jan. 13 at C.M. Armstrong’s C.A.M Land Co. near Indiantown, Fla., because of complications from the infirmities of old age. He was 19.
Exclusive Praline experienced his best season at 3 in 1994. Racing for Frank Calabrese and trained by Steve Towne, he won the Ohio Derby (gr. II) over subsequent Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. II) winner Concern and captured three other stakes, including the Lafayette Stakes (gr. III) and the Miami Beach Sprint Handicap in track-record time of 1:22.29 at Calder Race Course.
In his last start of 1994, Exclusive Praline contested the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (gr. I) but finished unplaced to winner Cherokee Run.
Exclusive Praline (Ecliptical--Toasted Almond, by Tri Jet) raced through age 7. He was retired with 15 wins from 43 starts and earnings of $610,330. He was bred in Florida by Mary K. Haire.
Exclusive Praline, who initially stood in Illinois, is represented by just 14 foals. Ten have started and six are winners.
