G. Watts Humphrey Jr.'s Victory Ride was vanned off the Saratoga track Saturday after being pulled up during a morning work. The 3-year-old daughter of Seeking the Gold, who won the July 28 Test Stakes (gr. I) in her most recent start, suffered a condylar fracture of her right front cannon bone.

Victory Ride had just finished the first quarter of a half-mile breeze Saturday when she bobbled and was pulled up. X-rays taken later revealed the fracture. She will have surgery to insert three or four screws into the bone.

"It's not life-threatening," trainer Rusty Arnold said. "Dr. (Larry) Bramlage took a look at her. She's going to have surgery (Sunday) morning. Then, we'll make a prognosis on her future. ... I'm pretty upset."

Purchased for $475,000 at the 1999 Keeneland July yearling sale, Victory Ride has won three of four career starts, with the lone blemish a second-place finish to Forest Secrets in the Acorn Stakes (gr. I). She was preparing to run in the Gazelle (gr. I) at Belmont Sept. 8. Mr. and Mrs. John C. Mabee bred the filly in Kentucky.
