Fasig-Tipton’s new office building near Lexington is open for business. The Thoroughbred auction company’s Kentucky-based employees moved into the 2 ½-story structure Dec. 31 and completed their first full workday there Jan. 4.

“We’re very excited to be in it, and we’re up and going,” said Dan Pride, Fasig-Tipton’s executive vice president and chief operating officer. “It’s been a heck of a process watching it go up and dealing with all the fun stuff like underground springs (which poured water into the excavation site for the basement at the rate of 300 gallons per minute before a system of pumps was built) and other surprises. But it is a facility we are looking forward to being in for many years to come.”

The building, which is located in front of the sale pavilion, is approximately 35,000 square feet, including its basement, and is constructed of bricks made from Kentucky clay and limestone. It has a copper roof.

The previous Fasig-Tipton Kentucky office was a one-story structure, and Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning said earlier this year that construction of a new office building was necessary because the company’s staff had gotten larger and there wasn’t enough space. There also was no conference room in the old structure.

“We’ve definitely got more room, and we’ve organized areas by function, which is something we didn’t have in the old building,” Pride said. “We’ve got a sales area, an accounting area, and a marketing and advertising area. It gives us a more a more efficient structure in how we organize our business.”

Two pedestrian walkways, which connect the new office building with the sale pavilion, are still under construction.
