Australian Horse of the Year Scenic Blast will be sent to the United States to continue his racing career, senior part-owner Elio Galante told Australia’s Herald Sun newspaper. The 5-year-old Scenic gelding will be trained by California-based John Shirreffs.
According to the Herald Sun, Scenic Blast is banned from racing in Australia for three months after bleeding in the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sprint (HK-I) Dec. 13 and finishing last in a field of 14. The gelding will be able to race in this country while being treated with furosemide (Salix), which is used to prevent exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage.
Scenic Blast has won eight of his 21 career races. He is a two-time group I winner in Australia. Earlier this year, he journeyed to Europe, where he scored in the King’s Stand Stakes (Eng-I).
