Woodbine Entertainment Group, which operates Woodbine Racetrack, announced that David S. Willmot plans to leave the post of CEO, effective with the board of directors next meeting June 4, 2010. Willmot announced his intentions during the WEG directors meeting Dec. 4.

Willmot, who will be succeeded by Nick Eaves, WEG president and chief operating officer, will continue to serve as the company’s board chairman.

In addition to his role with Woodbine, Willmot owns famed Kinghaven Farms, near King in Ontario. Kinghaven was begun by Willmot’s late father, Donald G. "Bud" Willmot, who purchased the property in 1967 and converted it from a cattle operation to horses. Kinghaven has been honored with nine Sovereign Awards as Canada’s outstanding breeder and five Sovereigns for owner.

David Willmot was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2005.
