Erich Zimny, racing administrator at Charles Town Races & Slots since April 2008, has been named director of racing operations at the West Virginia track effective immediately.
Zimny will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the racing office and starting gate crew, the track said in a release issued Dec. 2. He is a former attorney who served as a racing official at Suffolk Downs in Massachusetts in the late 1990s.
“I appreciate this added responsibility and look forward to working with everyone and building on what we’ve started,” Zimny said in a statement.
Zimny has been involved in developing new “event” programs at Charles Town geared toward the packaging of stakes. This year, the track had three such nights, including one that featured the new Charles Town Classic, the purse of which could be $1 million if grade I winners compete and win.
Charles Town is owned and operated by Penn National Gaming Inc.
