Gregory Lamb, an auditor with the Colorado Division of Racing for the past 18 years, has been hired as supervisor of pari-mutuel wagering for the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission.

The position was recommended by the Governor’s Task Force on the Future of Horse Racing in Kentucky but has gone unfilled because of budgetary issues. Lamb will be on the job beginning Dec. 1, the date of the next KHRC meeting.

In Colorado, Lamb was instrumental in creating and developing the policies, procedures, and techniques required under state statutes and regulations to assure compliance with rules governing tote and pari-mutuel department operations, the KHRA said in a Nov. 30 release.

“The task force created by Gov. (Steve) Beshear gave us the direction we requested in addressing the integrity of horse racing in Kentucky by specifically naming this position as critical to elevating this area of oversight by the commission,” KHRA executive director Lisa Underwood said in a statement. “I am confident in the ability of Greg to help raise the level of integrity of horse racing to meet the expectations of the wagering public.”

Beshear said his administration is “doing whatever it can to maintain” Kentucky’s stature in the horse industry, “whether it’s restoring the integrity of the industry or maintaining its financial competitiveness. Gregory Lamb’s hire is part of that effort.”

Pari-mutuel racing in Colorado has been dealt serious setbacks in recent years with a reduction in dates at Arapahoe Park, which offers horse racing, and the closure of several Greyhound tracks.
