Yearling entries for the 2011 running of the Investec Epsom Derby (Eng-I) must be made by noon Dec. 1.

The initial entry stage, at a fee of £400 ($660), is the most cost-effective way of aiming a horse to England’s premier race for 3-year-olds, which will have a total purse of at least £1.25 million ($2.06 million).

The 232nd running of the Epsom Derby will be run at June 4, 2011 Epsom Downs, and those entered at the yearling stage will pay no more than £6,900 ($11,400) to enter the starting gate.

Connections have the opportunity to enter as a 3-year-old for £8,000 ($13,200). That second entry stage closes April 5, 2011. The total in fees paid by a 2011 Investec Derby runner from the second entry stage is £20,500 ($33,800). Late supplements can be made at the final stage, May 30, 2011, at a cost of £75,000 ($123,500).

First staged in 1780 when Sir Charles Bunbury’s Diomed prevailed, the Investec Derby is the original Derby and is open to 3-year-old entire colts and fillies.

The official entry form for the 2011 Investec Derby can be downloaded from the Weatherbys website www.weatherbys.co.uk.
