Steve Sexton, who left Lone Star Park in Texas earlier this year to become executive vice president of Arlington Park, has been named president of the suburban Chicago racetrack. The announcement was made by Thomas Meeker, chief executive officer of Churchill Downs Inc., which acquired Arlington in a stock merger last September, and by Richard Duchossois, Arlington's former owner and the largest individual shareholder of CDI.
Sexton replaces Scott Mordell, who is resigning from the racetrack effective Aug. 31 to become executive vice president of Duchossois Industries Inc. Mordell has been president and chief executive officer of Arlington since March 1995 after serving as vice president of finance and administration since 1991.
Sexton began his career in racing 18 years ago as sales promotion manager at Santa Anita Park, and he subsequently has held positions at Canterbury Park, Golden Gate Fields, and Thistledown before joining the start-up team at Lone Star Park.
