Juddmonte Farms' homebred Marine won the $150,000 La Jolla Stakes (gr. IIIT) under jockey Corey Nakatani, with the winner completing the 1 1/16 miles in 1:41.72 on the firm turf course at Del Mar.

Marine (Marju--Ivorine, by Blushing Groom) closed from last to win by a neck over 6-5 favorite Romanceishope and returned $17.20, $5.80, and $3.80. Romanceishope finished two lengths ahead of Mister Approval and paid $3.20 and $2.40. Mister Approval returned $3.20 to show. The $1 exacta paid $24.70.

Sea to See, Sir Alfred, Cap Amiral, Hoovergetthekeys, and Dim Sums completed the order of finish.

The Robert Frankel-trained winner earned $90,000 for the win, his fourth in 13 career starts. In his most recent start prior to Saturday, Marine did not finish in the Ascot Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Bay Meadows in June after finishing third in the Cinema Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Hollywood Park. The 3-year-old colt earned his first stakes win in March, winning the restricted La Puente Stakes by 1 1/2 lengths. (Chart, Equibase)
