The Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association announced Friday the election of Gary Biszantz as chairman of its board of trustees. Joining Biszantz on the board for three-year terms as new members will be John Amerman, John Ed Anthony, Cot Campbell, Bob Courtney Jr., Willian Heiligbrodt, R.D. Hubbard, Eugene Melnyk, Debby Oxley, George Strawbridge, Kenny Trout, Tom Van Meter, and Charlotte Weber.
Re-elected to three-year terms were current trustees James Bell, William Condren, William Farish Jr., Richard Golden, Robert Manfuso, Arthur Preston, and Joseph Shields Jr.
Named as officers for 2001-2002 are Biszantz, who will succeed Stuart Janney III as chairman, Daniel Metzger as president, Reynolds Bell Jr. and John Phillips as vice presidents, Donald Dizney as secretary, and Charles Clugston as treasurer.
"I am honored and humbled to assume this responsibility," said Biszantz. "Owners, through their investment in the sport, are critical for the long-term success of racing, and we will be eager to undertake the many challenges ahead of us."
The TOBA board also approved the appointment of Steve Duncker to the American Graded Stakes Committee. Duncker will replace G. Watts Humphrey.
