Mango Resigns Maryland Position

The Maryland Jockey Club announced Friday that James P. Mango will be resigning his position as Executive Vice President effective September 30, 2001.

Mango, who has been with the Maryland Jockey Club for over seventeen years, is credited with leading the implementation of many new developments in Maryland racing over the past decade, including common-pool wagering, full-card simulcasting and off-track betting.

"Jim has been an absolutely invaluable member of our team at the Maryland Jockey Club. More than any single person, Jim is responsible for making the Preakness the event that it is today," said Joseph A. De Francis, Maryland Jockey Club President and Chief Executive Officer. "It has been an absolute pleasure, both personally and professionally, to have had this opportunity to work with Jim over the years. He will be sorely missed."

Mango made no announcement regarding his future plans.
