Southern Image  will stand the 2010 breeding season at Rancho San Miguel near San Miguel, Calif., it was announced Nov. 23. The 9-year-old son of Halo's Image-Pleasant Dixie, by Dixieland Bandwill stand for $5,000.

A three-time grade I winner on the track, Southern Image’s first foals are 2-year-olds of 2009.

Southern Image has 12 winners to date including Hollywood Park track record setter Southern Fireball and stakes horses; Privilaged, Best Be Quick, and Winning Image. By moving to California, he moves to the top of the first-crop sire list in the Golden State.

As a 3-year-old, he won the seven-furlong Malibu Stakes (gr. I) at Santa Anita and won the Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I) and Pimlico Special (gr. I) at 4. He also won the Sunshine Millions Classic and earned more than $1.8 million.

He had all the attributes of a great race horse, precocity, versatility, consistency and the will to win,” said his trainer Mike Machowsky. “I believe he will pass on those traits to his foals.”

Southern Image, who previously stood at Taylor Made Farm near Nicholasville, Ky.,  is owned by a syndicate and joins the Rancho San Miguel roster which includes Marino Marini, McCann’s Mojave, Formal Gold, Sought After, and Comic Strip.
