Smith to Join 'Inside Scoop' on Zenyatta Day

(from Hollywood Park reports)

Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith will be Kurt Hoover’s guest on a special edition of The Inside Scoop Nov. 29, which is “Zenyatta Day” at Hollywood Park.

Zenyatta, the undefeated 14-for-14 super mare who became the first female winner of the Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) earlier this month at Santa Anita Park, will be paraded following the seventh race on the Nov. 29  program. She has been stabled at Hollywood Park during her career.

Smith, rider of Zenyatta for the last 11 victories of her perfect career, will join Hoover at 11:30 a.m., one hour prior to first post time at the Garden Paddock tote board.

The program includes the $300,000 Hollywood Derby (gr. IT) and the $100,000 Miesque Stakes (gr. IIIT).

Patrons attending the celebration of Zenyatta will receive a DVD — “ZENYATTA,   A Living Legend” — which will include interviews and each of her 14 starts, culminating with the sensational victory over a world-class field in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita Park. The items will be available on track only.

The “Girl Power” poster popular at the Breeders’ Cup with the “Go Zenyatta” exclamation will also include her lifetime past performances on the back. Both giveaways will be available to patrons paying admission while supplies last.

Owners Jerry and Ann Moss will be on hand for the event, accompanied by the Zenyatta team:  jockey Smith, trainer John Shirreffs, groom Mario Espinoza, hot walker Carmen Zamora, exercise rider Steve Willard and stable manager Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs.

The Inside Scoop will take place in its regular slot at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 28 as handicapper/turf writer Bob Mieszerski is Hoover’s guest.
