Chief Seattle, New York’s leading sire in 2007, has been purchased by Tommy Wente’s WinRich Farm for stallion duty at the North Vernon, Ind., farm. The 12-year-old son of Seattle Slew out of the Icecapade mare Skatingonthisice formerly stood for Sheikh Mohammed’s Darley at Empire Stud near Hudson, N.Y. A fee will be announced later.
Chief Seattle has sired 10 stakes winners and the earners of $12.2 million. He ranks top among Indiana stallions in 2009, with progeny earnings of $2.3 million.
Chief Seattle’s 10 career stakes winners include Canadian champion and classic winner Shillelagh Slew, grade II winner Seafree, and Bold Chieftain, who topped the $1-million mark when he won his second California Cup Classic Handicap in October.
