Gomez 'Sore' After Spill, Off Mounts Sunday
X-rays taken of jockey Garrett Gomez's elbow and shoulder were negative following his fall in the ninth race at Hollywood Park Nov. 21. Gomez, winner of the Eclipse Award as the nation's top jockey in each of the past two years, was released from Centinela Hospital at about 6:30 in the evening. A text message from his agent, Ron Anderson, said "He's alright, sore, going home, nothing broken." The 37-year-old rider was relieved of his assignments Nov. 22, including his mount in the featured $100,000 Moccasin Stakes for 2-year-old fillies, Miss Heather Lee. Gomez was shaken up after his mount broke down while leading at the sixteenth pole.
