Mint Lane, a New York grade II winner, has been retired from racing. Bred in Kentucky by Pope McLean Sr. and his two sons in partnership with William Schiffman, Mint Lane raced for Headley Bell’s Pinebloom Stable.
A 4-year-old son of Maria's Mon, Mint Lane was second to Casino Drive in the 2008 Peter Pan Stakes (gr. II) and then won the Postponed Stakes and the Dwyer Stakes (gr. II) in consecutive starts. He injured a hind ankle in the Jim Dandy Stakes (gr. II) at Saratoga in his next start and didn’t run again until this September. Unable to return to his prior form, he was retired. He won or placed in seven of a dozen races and earned $299,312.
Mint Lane is out of the winning Conquistador Cielo mare Sister Girl, who is a half-sister to stakes winner Secret Sip. His fourth dam is prominent broodmare Kamar.
Breeding plans are undecided.
