Consolidator, one of the leading first-crop sires by number of winners this year, will stand in 2010 at Brent and Crystal Fernung’s Journeyman Stud near Ocala, Fla. The 7-year-old grade I-winning son of Storm Cat formerly stood at Sheikh Mohammed’s Darley near Lexington.
Owned by Darley, Consolidator has sired 16 winners and the earners of $500,000. His four stakes horses include added-money winner Queen Imidala and two-time French group-placed runner Absolute Music.
As a racehorse, Consolidator won the Lane’s End Breeders’ Futurity (gr. I) at Keeneland at 2 and took the San Felipe Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita over subsequent Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner Giacomo at 3. He earned a career total of $661,760.
“We’re thrilled to have Consolidator join our roster,” said Brent Fernung. “He is off to a great start, and I think that his produce will only get better as they mature and stretch out.”
Consolidator is out of French group III winner Good Example (by Crystal Glitters) and is a full brother to stakes winner Mycatcandance.
Consolidator’s fee will be announced at a later date, along with the remainder of the Journeyman stallions.
