Mastercraftsman, last year’s Cartier Award-winning juvenile male and a classic winner in 2009, will join his sire Danehill Dancer at John Magnier and partners’ Coolmore Stud in Ireland. His 2010 fee is 20,000 euros. Mastercraftsman, who also was Ireland’s champion 2-year-old male, won four of five starts at 2, including the Independent Waterford Wedgwood Phoenix Stakes (Ire-I), the Bank of Scotland National Stakes (Ire-I), and the One 51 Railway Stakes (Ire-II). At 3, he captured the classic Boylesports.com Irish Two Thousand Guineas (Ire-I) by 4 1/2 lengths and Royal Ascot’s St James’s Palace Stakes (Eng-I). He also finished second to Sea The Stars in the Juddmonte International Stakes (Eng-I). Mastercraftsman, out of the winning Black Tie Affair mare Starlight Dreams, retired with seven wins from a dozen starts and earnings of $1,732,441. He closed out his career with a fourth-place effort in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (gr. I) at Oak Tree at Santa Anita. Coolmore’s Christy Grassick commented: “Mastercraftsman was a top class racehorse, winning four group I races at six furlongs, seven furlongs, and a mile.” In other Coolmore stud news, Powerscourt, who sired 2009 Moyglare Stud Stakes (Ire-I) winner Termagant from his first crop, moves from the outfit’s North American base, Ashford Stud, near Versailles, Ky., to Coolmore in Ireland. His 2010 fee is 7,500 euros. Coolmore also will stand Danehill Dancer, Galileo, and Montjeu for private fees. All three stood for private fees in 2009.
