Accident Disrupts Morning Routine

With limited training hours at Santa Anita on Breeders’ Cup Day Nov. 6, most of the major horses scheduled to run on Day 2 went to the track early under cool and partly cloudy skies.

As of 8 a.m. (Pacific time) there were no reports any World Championships participants being scratched.

With a large group of fans, owners, breeders, and trainers gathered trackside at Clocker’s Corner, the routine was disrupted when a horse from the Vladimir Cerin barn tossed its exercise rider near the finish line. As the rider lay on the track awaiting an ambulance, the horse ran down the stretch the wrong way and continued into the barn area.

While the horse was caught near the Cerin barn and did not appear to sustain any injuries, the rider was removed from the track on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital.
