George E. Wafer Jr., a successful Colorado breeder/owner, died Oct. 28 of cancer. A Denver native, he was 74.
Wafer, who owned Wafer Thoroughbred Ranch near Elizabeth, Colo., campaigned nine stakes winners, six of which were homebreds, including 2008 added-money winners Absolutely True, Major Big Time, and She’s Outrageous. Another of Wafer’s stakes winners, Skip and Go, was voted 2005 Texas-bred Horse of the Year. Wafer was the breeder of seven added-money winners.
Wafer served as a Marine during the Korean War and was active in real estate businesses for more than 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Susan, and four children.
