Grade I Winner Dreams Gallore Retired

Gary Tanaka's Dreams Gallore, whose big win came in the 1999 Mother Goose Stakes (gr. I), has been retired from racing because of an ankle chip. The 5-year-old mare ran unplaced in the July 29 Go for Wand Handicap (gr. I) at Saratoga in her final start.

Tanaka bought Dreams Gallore privately from Texas horseman Keith Asmussen after she had won the Honeybee Stakes (gr. III) at Oaklawn Park in March of 1999. Tanaka retained Asmussen's son, Steve, as trainer. Following the purchase, Dreams Gallore ran third in the Fantasy Stakes (gr. II), then second in the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) and Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (gr. II) prior to her 7 1/2-length score in the Mother Goose in June. A month later, she finished second in the Coaching Club American Oaks (gr. I).

After that, Dreams Gallore (Silver Ghost--Fitnah, by Fit to Fight) suffered a series of setbacks in which she wasn't able to start until this year. She won at Fair Grounds in March in her first race back, but failed to win after that. Her best effort came in a third-place finish in the Louisville Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II) in May. Dreams Gallore, who was bred by Palisades Investments N. V., won five of 16 races and earned $588,615.
