The speedy 3-year-old filly Careless Jewel drew the rail position for the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (gr. I), which attracted a field of eight. Zenyatta, as expected, went into the Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I), and because of her defection, Lethal Heat will run in the Ladies’ Classic instead of the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.
Godolphin Racing’s Music Note, third in the Ladies’ Classic last year, was made the 9-5 morning line favorite and drew post seven. Godolphin’s other runner, Cocoa Beach, will start just inside of her stablemate from post position six, and she is listed at 8-1. Cocoa Beach finished second in last year’s Ladies’ Classic behind Zenyatta. Saeed bin Suroor trains both of the Godolphin runners. Rajiv Maragh will ride Music Note, and Richard Migliore is set to pilot Cocoa Beach.
Careless Jewel, the 2-1 second choice on the morning line, will be the first Breeders’ Cup starter for Canadians Vern and Donna Dubinsky.
“You dream of these things, but we never expected to be here,” Vern Dubinsky said.
Josie Carroll trains Careless Jewel, who brings a five-race winning streak into the Ladies’ Classic. Robert Landry will ride the filly.
European Rainbow View drew the outside post eight. The 6-1 third choice on the morning line, Rainbow View is trained by John Gosden, who won two 2008 Breeders’ Cup races, including the Classic with Raven’s Pass.
