Ventura on Far Outside in F&M Sprint
Ventura, who will be trying to win the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint for the second consecutive year Nov. 6, was made the 8-5 morning line favorite in the Nov. 3 post position draw for the World Championships at Santa Anita Park. The Juddmonte Farms homebred, which likes to come from behind, is on the far outside in the field of nine and will be ridden by Garrett Gomez. A 5-year-old daughter of Chester House, Ventura took the 2008 edition of the seven-furlong Sprint by four lengths over Santa Anita’s Pro-Ride surface. She comes into this year’s race off a one-length victory in the Sept. 20 Woodbine Mile (Can-IT). Augustin Stable’s Informed Decision is the 5-2 second choice and will break from the No. 7 post. In April, the 4-year-old daughter of Monarchos edged Ventura by a head in the seven-furlong Vinery Madison Stakes (gr. I) on Keeneland’s Polytrack. The third choice, at 4-1, is Godolphin Racing’s Seventh Street, who has post No. 8. She has scored in the Apple Blossom (gr. I) and Go for Wand (gr. I) Handicaps this year. Seventh Street’s grade III-winning stablemate, Sara Louise, is in the No. 2 post and is 9-2 on the morning line.
