Putney Bridge, from the Juddmonte Farms consignment, was the star on the third day of the Tattersalls autumn horses in training auction, selling for 300,000 guineas to bloodstock agent John McCormack Oct. 28 in England. McCormack was acting on behalf of Prince Faisal bin Khalid of Saudi Arabia.

A 4-year-old Mizzen Mast – Valentine Band gelding, Putney Bridge scored in this year’s Prix Jacques Laffitte in France. The Juddmonte homebred’s other efforts have included a runner-up finish in the 2009 La Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte (Fr-III) and thirds in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud (Fr-I) and Prix Messidor (Fr-III).

The sale’s third-day results included a gross of 6,338,400 guineas for the 240 horses that sold (from 283 offered). The average price was 26,410 guineas, and the median price was 14,500 guineas.

In 2008, 254 horses (from 304 offered) were sold for a gross of 7,024,500 guineas and an average of 27,656 guineas. The median was 10,000 guineas.
