Belmont Moves Turf Stakes to Oct. 25

The $150,000 Mohawk and the $150,000 Ticonderoga for fillies and mares, two nine-furlong turf stakes originally scheduled for "New York Showcase Day" Oct. 24 at Belmont Park, have been moved back one day because of anticipated bad weather.
 
An inch or more of rain is forecast for the New York metropolitan area, beginning on the evening of Oct. 23.
 
The five remaining state-bred dirt stakes, including the $250,000 Empire Classic, will be run as scheduled on Oct. 24, supported by five other races for New York-breds on the 10-race card.
 
Last weekend, NYRA postponed a pair of graded turf stakes due to weather concerns. The $100,000 Athenia (gr. IIIT) was shifted from to Oct. 21 and the $100,000 Knickerbocker (gr. IIIT) was moved to Oct. 22 because the forecast called for significant rain.
