City Zip Filly Brings $55,000 in N.Y. Sale

A weanling filly by City Zip   sold for $55,000 to top the New York Breeders Sales Company’s fall breeding stock sale Oct. 18 at Saratoga Race Course. New Jersey bloodstock agent Buzz Chace, acting on behalf of West Point Thoroughbreds, purchased her from Waldorf Farm, agent.

Bred by Dr. Jerry Bilinksi, Martin Zaretsky, and Harry Patten in New New York, the filly is out of the 12-year-old Capote mare Capote’s Tune and is a half-sister to the winners Only a Vision (by Vision and Verse) and Camptown Blues (by Forest Camp). Capote’s Tune, who finished third three times in 11 career races, is a half-sister to 1992 Genuine Risk Stakes (gr. II) and Garden State Budweiser Breeders’ Cup Handicap (gr. II) winner Parisian Flight and added-money winner Concorde’s Tune (both by Concorde Bound).

The 57 horses that sold grossed $640,500 and averaged $11,237. The median price was $4,500. The buy-back/no bid rate was 60.7%, with 88 of the 145 horses offered failing to find new homes.
