Tatts Book 3's Final Average Down 20%

Book 3 of the Tattersalls October yearling sale ended Oct. 16 in England with a downturn from 2008 of 13.2% in gross revenue. The average price dropped 20%, and the median price was down 16.4%. The buy-back rate fell from 34.5% last year to 28.6% this year.

An Invincible Spirit colt out of the Grand Lodge mare Gracious was the most expensive horse sold on Book 3’s second and final day, bringing 50,000 guineas from trainer Marco Botti. David and Debi Curran’s Gazeley Stud, agent, consigned the colt.

Book 3’s cumulative results included a gross of 2,442,500 guineas for the 294 horses that sold. The average was 8,308 guineas, and the median was 5,850 guineas. In 2008, the 271 horses that sold grossed 2,815,300 guineas and averaged 10,389 guineas. The median was 7,000 guineas.

The figures for Book 3's second day only, when 100 yearlings were sold, included a gross of 600,200 guineas. The average was 6,002 guineas, and the median was 4,200 guineas. The buy-back rate was 37.5%.
