The Breeders Sales Company of Louisiana will conduct a mixed sale Oct. 17 at Serenity Farm in Folsom, La. There are 146 horses in the catalog.

“The mixed sale was traditionally a part of our annual sale in North Louisiana,” said Tom Early, CEO for the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association and sales coordinator for the Breeders Sales Company of Louisiana. “The sale was combined with the yearling sale, but our yearling sale grew so we needed to conduct this sale separately for our members and other consignors.”

All accredited Louisiana bred foals of 2008 auctioned in these sales are eligible to be nominated to either the A.L. “Red” Erwin Memorial Stakes ($150,000 added for sale horses. $50,000 added for non-sale horses – colts and geldings) or the Elge Rasberry Memorial Stakes ($150,000 added for sale horses, $50,000 added for non-sale horses --  fillies). The races will be run at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs.

All accredited Louisiana bred foals of 2008 auctioned in the sale are eligible for a Bayou State Bonus. A colt or gelding who wins the 2010 Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile ($100,000), the 2011 Crescent City Derby ($75,000), and the 2011 A.L. “Red” Erwin Memorial Stakes will receive a $100,000 bonus at the completion of the final race. A filly who wins the 2010 Louisiana Champions Day Lassie ($100,000), the 2011 Crescent City Oaks ($75,000), and the 2011 Elge Rasberry Memorial Stakes will receive a $100,000 bonus at the completion of the final race. The bonus paid will be added to the earnings of the winning horse and paid to the owner of the horse at that time.
