New York breeder/owner Dr. Jonathan Davis will add prominent sire Phone Trick to the stallion roster at his Milfer Farm near Unadilla, N.Y. Nineteen-year-old Phone Trick, who stood for a syndicate at John T.L. Jones Jr.'s Walmac International near Lexington, is scheduled to arrive at the farm this week. He stood for $30,000 this breeding season and covered more than 70 mares. He ranks seventh on the 2001 leading sires list by progeny earnings.

Davis and partners purchased 39 of the 40 shares in Phone Trick, with Louisiana breeder/owner Russ Sherrod retaining his share. Davis was joined in the purchase by several breeders, including Dr. E. Paul Robsham and Barbara Brewer. Davis will manage Phone Trick, whose 45 stakes winners includes 1997 Horse of the Year Favorite Trick, champion filly Phone Chatter, and current millionaire speedster Caller One.

Phone Trick's acquisition is part of Davis' plan to recruit successful stallions that have proved themselves on the commercial market. In 2000, Phone Trick's yearlings averaged $58,453 and his 2-year-olds $131,667. Davis is in the process of syndicating Phone Trick and will announce the stallion's fee following the September sales.

Phone Trick (Clever Trick--Over the Phone, by Finnegan) won nine of his 10 starts and earned $395,112.
