Texas Stallion Grand Jewel Dead

Grand Jewel, who stood at several Texas farms during his career, died after a breeding accident this year. Owned by Dr. David De Jongh, the 19-year-old son of Java Gold out of the Alydar mare Flying Rumor sired multiple stakes winner Jewels for a Lady and stakes-placed Angelic Jewel.

Grand Jewel raced as a homebred for William S. Farish and W. S. Kilroy. As a 3-year-old at Keeneland in 1993, he won the Fayette Stakes (gr. II) in track-record-equaling time and the Lexington Stakes (gr. II). He retired with six wins from 14 races and earnings of $285,151.
