Three-time Louisiana champion Costa Rising will enter stud at Val Murrell’s Clear Creek Stud near Folsom, La. His 2010 fee is $1,000.
Six-year-old Costa Rising won 15 of 26 races and earned $901,616, the third-highest total for a Louisiana-bred in history. Ten of his wins came in stakes.
Campaigned for all but his first race by Charles A. Castille Jr., Costa Rising was voted Louisiana’s 2006 champion 3-year-old male and 2007 Horse of the Year and champion older male.
Costa Rising won back-to-back runnings of the Louisiana Champions Day Classic Stakes at Fair Grounds, once by 15 1/4 lengths, and the Gold Cup Stakes at Delta Downs. He captured the Evangeline Mile Handicap by 12 1/4 lengths in track-record time and the Louisiana Premier Night Championship Stakes.
