Colt, Filly Top First Day of Louisiana Sale

A colt and a filly each brought $55,000 to top the first session of the two-day Breeders Sales Co. of Louisiana yearling sale Sept. 28 in Monroe, La.

The sale, which continues Sept. 29, was expanded to two days this year because of interest on the part of consignors and buyers, sale officials said. More than 400 horses were cataloged.

The colt Main Mann Lee, by Kafwain   out of Another Zone, sold for $55,000 to Triple R Stable. Clear Creek Stud was the consignor.

The same price was paid for Tensas Idea, a filly by Ide  —Xylophone who went to Roger G. Smith. She was consigned by Elysian Bloodstock.

The sales company reported 128 horses were sold Sept. 28 for a total of $1,054,500, an average price of $8,238, and a $5,000 median. There were 69 horses that did not sell because they did not surpass their reserves.

During the one-day sale in 2008, 171 horses grossed $2,086,300. The average price was $12,201 with a median of $6,000. There were 87 RNAs last year.

LTBA officials said the state’s lucrative breeders’ program is an incentive for buyers. There are three races per day at each track for Louisiana-accredited racehorses; awards of 22% are paid to state-bred runners that finish first, second, or third in races in Louisiana.

In addition, 22% awards are paid for Louisiana-accredited horses that finish first, second, or third in stakes outside of the state.
