Lailani earned her sixth consecutive win at Goodwood Saturday with a win in the Vodafone Nassau Stakes (Eng-I). The win marks the second straight group I victory for the Kildangan Stud Irish Oaks (Ire-I) winner.
Sheikh Maktoum al Maktoum's Lailani (Unfuwain--Lailati, by Mr. Prospector) has now won six of eight career races. The 3-year-old filly rated behind the pace through t he early going before surging to the lead in the final furlong to win by 1 1/2 lengths. Under Frankie Dettori, Lailani completed the just under 1 1/4 miles in 2:07.52 on good turf, good to firm in places.
"I had to wait a little bit and give her something to aim at but she really gave everything to me," Dettori told Sporting Life. "I think that she is a bit of a favorite with the crowds now that she has won six. She is a buzzy little filly and has had some tough races. She was getting as bit warm but I am very good with the fillies!"
Lailani was bred in Great Britain by Gainsborough Stud Management Ltd. and is trained by Ed Dunlop.
Snowflake finished second, a half-length clear of Time Away, with Cayman Sunset fourth in the seven-horse field. 4-1 second choice Sequoyah finished a disappointing seventh. (Chart,
