Changes Made in Japanese Auction

The Japan Racing Horse Association has changed its format for the July select foal and yearling sale for 2010. There will be two days of selling instead of three at the Northern Horse Park on the Japanese island of Hokkaido and more yearlings will be offered.

The yearling session, which will offer 200 horses, will be held July 12. The foal session,which will offer 220 horses, will be conducted July 19. Both sessions will begin at 10 a.m.

Explaining the changes, a JRHA press release quoted the organization’s officials as saying the following: “We have heard the voices from the buyers that the three-day sale is too long for the owners, who are running their main business at Tokyo and Osaka. A two-day sale is more suitable for them. The demand at the yearling session was very strong at our sale in 2009, and it is the tendency which has been seen at all sales organized in Japan recently. After due consideration, we have decided to sell more yearlings in 2010.”
