A filly from the last full crop sired by leading stallion Storm Cat was purchased by Westrock Stables for $675,000 to top the early portion of the Thursday, Sept. 17, Keeneland September yearling sale.
The sale of the filly, consigned as Hip No. 926 by Eaton Sales, agent for the dispersal of Overbrook Farm, highlighted the first couple of hours of the fourth session of the marathon sale.
The Kentucky-bred filly was produced from the stakes winner and grade II-placed mare Winendynme, a daughter of Dynaformer .
Westrock, headed by Scott Ford, a former president and chief executive officer of Alltel, was the second-biggest spender at last winter's Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's select sale of 2-year-olds in training.
A short time later, Westrock struck again, buying Hip No. 961, a Medaglia d'Oro colt, for $600,000. Consigned by Dave C. Parrish’s Indian Creek as agent, the colt was produced from the stakes winner and stakes producer Bashful Charmer.
Bred in Kentucky by Peter Van Andel and Stonewall Farm, the colt had been purchased by Iroquois Bloodstock III for $87,000 at the 2008 Keeneland November breeding stock sale.
