Maimonides

Maimonides  , a $4.6-million Keeneland September sale yearling, has been retired from racing and will enter stud at Tom Simon’s Vinery near Summerfield, Fla. A fee will be announced later.

Maimonides was a runaway winner at Saratoga in his first start at 2.  Racing for owner Ahmed Zayat’s Zayat Stables, Maimonides scored by 11 1/2 lengths. In his next start, he finished third in the Hopeful Stakes (gr. I) at the Spa after setting a contentious pace. After that race, it was discovered he had bucked shins.

“This horse has perfect conformation, an impeccable pedigree, and a world of raw talent,” Zayat said about the 4-year-old colt. “We wanted to give him as much time as he needed, but he has just had bad luck. He is a horse with unfulfilled potential, but I hope that he will be able to prove himself in the breeding shed like his (half) siblings El Corredor   and Roman Ruler  . He is the best horse I have ever owned. Period.”

Bred by Needham/Betz Thoroughbreds, Liberation Farm, and  Hill ‘n’ Dale, Maimonides is by Vindication out of the Silver Deputy mare Silvery Swan. Both El Corredor and Roman Ruler are graded stakes winners.
