Glencrest Farm and Dapple Stable’s graded stakes winner Necessary Evil suffered an injury while finishing unplaced in the Sept. 5 Darley Debutante Stakes (gr. I) at Del Mar, it was announced Sept. 9.

“Necessary Evil fractured her left front ankle during the running of the Debutante, but the prognosis for a complete recovery is excellent,” said Glencrest’s David Greathouse. “We are not sure when it happened, but she was bumped right after the start and that certainly may have contributed.”

Greathouse said the 2-year-old daughter of Harlan's Holiday will be sent to Ciaran Dunne’s Wavertree Stables near Ocala, Fla., where she received her early training. She is expected to return to training within three to four months.

Trained by Doug O’Neill, Necessary Evil set a track-record of :56.68 at Hollywood Park for five furlongs in her debut while defeating Mi Sueno, the Darley Debutante winner. She next defeated colts in the Hollywood Juvenile Championship Stakes (gr. III) at Hollywood, after which she finished second to Mi Sueno in the Sorrento Stakes (gr. III) at Del Mar. She has earned $117,600.

Necessary Evil, out of Unbridled's Song mare Song and Danz, was bred by Don Ameche III, grandson of Oscar winner Don Ameche. She was purchased for $160,000 at the 2008 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July yearling sale from Warrendale Sales, agent.
