Well Armed, winner of the Dubai World Cup Sponsored By Emirates Airline (UAE-I) earlier this year, is recuperating following surgery at co-owner and co-breeder Bill Casner’s farm in Flower Mound, Texas. A bone chip was removed from the 6-year-old Tiznow   gelding’s ankle during the procedure, Casner told Del Mar’s publicity department.

“He’s doing very well, swimming every day and healing nicely,” Casner said. "He should be back to racing next year, maybe as early as Dubai, but that’s pushing it a lot.”

In his only start since the World Cup in March, Well Armed finished last of eight runners in the Aug. 2 San Diego Handicap (gr. II), a race he had won in 2008.

An earner of $5,179,803, Well Armed was bred in Kentucky by Casner and Kenny Troutt’s WinStar Farm and has carried the nursery’s colors in all 24 of his career races. His efforts have included a victory in the 2008 Goodwood Stakes (gr. I), a runner-up finish in the 2008 Pacific Classic (gr. I), and a third-place finish in the 2008 Dubai World Cup.
