Steeplechase Farm's Golden Ghost became the first winner and first stakes winner for 2004 Horse of the Year Ghostzapper when he finished in a dead heat for win with Toboggan Slide in the $75,000 First State Dash Stakes at Delaware Park Aug. 22 (VIDEO) . The First State Dash was restricted to Delaware bred or certified 2-year-olds.
Toboggan Slide and Golden Ghost, with Jeremy Rose aboard for trainer Michael Gorham, finished 5 3/4 lengths in front of Phil’s Prospect, the 8-to-5 favorite in the field of 10. The final time was: 59.07 over a sloppy sealed track. The First State Dash was the first career victory for Golden Ghost in three career outings with earnings of $30,700.
Ghostzapper, a son of Awesome Again who raced for Frank Stronach’s Adena Springs, stands at Adena Springs near Paris, Ky., where his 2009 fee was $125,000.
