Archipenko, a graded/group stakes performer in five different countries, will enter stud at Kristen Rausing’s Lanwades Stud near Newmarket, England, in 2010. The 5-year-old son of Kingmambo retired with six wins from 17 starts and earnings of $2,399,395.
Archipenko’s major win came in the 2008 Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup (HK-I). Archipenko also was a group II winner in England, Ireland, and Dubai. In the United States, he ran second in the 2008 Arlington Million Stakes (gr. IT).
“Archipenko is a marvellously well-bred horse with great performance, being a winner every year from 2 to 5 and with lovely looks and temperament,” Rausing said. “I shall certainly be breeding my very best mares to him.”
Bred in Kentucky by Eagle Holdings, Archipenko is a half-brother to stakes winner Limit. His dam, graded stakes winner Bound (by Nijinsky II), is a half-sister to champion and major sire Nureyev and to the dam of champion and leading Irish sire Sadler’s Wells.
Archipenko’s fee will be announced later.
Rausing also announced that 21-year-old farm stallion Selkirk will be coming out of temporary retirement to stand in 2010. Selkirk (Sharpen Up--Annie Edge, by Nebbiolo) has sired 74 stakes winners.
