Arqana’s Deauville August yearling sale finished its four-day run in France Aug. 17 with a 3.4% increase in its average price and a 7.1% upswing in its median price from 2008. The gross revenue fell 1.5% while the clearance rate declined from 76.8% last year to 74.7%.
“Our aim before the sale was to maximize the satisfaction of our buyers and vendors under the current circumstances, and I believe we got there,” said Arqana president Eric Hoyeau.
The 343 horses that sold grossed €39,369,000 ($55,931,145 in U.S. funds) and averaged €114,778 ($163,064). The median was €75,000 ($106,552). Thirty-two yearlings were sold privately, grossing €2,087,500 ($2,965,690). The gross for public and private sales combined of €41,456,500 ($58,896,835) was an all-time high for the auction.
During the final session, an Enrique – Zaneton filly was the most expensive yearling sold, bringing €140,000 ($198,897). Alain Decrion purchased the filly from Haras des Capucines. The results for the session included a gross of €5,180,000 ($7,359,174) for the 112 horses that sold. The average was €46,250 ($65,707), and the median was €40,000 ($56,828). The clearance rate was 77.2%.
Ten yearlings were sold privately for a gross of €239,000 ($339,545).
