Promising Juvenile Fillies Set For Adirondack
In the Schuylerville, Beautician made a strong move on the turn, finishing 6 3/4 lengths ahead of third-place Cowgirl Mally, but 6 1/4 lengths behind Stonestreet Stables’ Hot Dixie Chick, trained by Steve Asmussen.
“The filly that beat us last time was really impressive,” said Beautician’s trainer, Ken McPeek. “(Beautician is training) well and acts like she’s really special. We feel like this is a good spot for her.”
While Beautician won’t have Hot Dixie Chick to contend with in the 6 1/2-furlong Adirondack, Asmussen is very much alive with a pair of talented juvenile fillies, including one backed by the same connections as Hot Dixie Chick.
Stonestreet Stables’ Dashing Debby won her debut by 10 1/4 lengths against winners for former trainer Gerald Procino in the J.J.’s Dream Stakes July 11 at Calder Race Course. Sold to Stonestreet and transferred to Asmussen’s barn after that race, her new trainer likes what she’s shown him so far.
“She’s extremely impressive and she’s a talented filly,” Asmussen said. “She has done everything right since she has been here. I like how she’s doing.”
Asmussen will also saddle Camille's Appeal, who broke her maiden at Delaware Park June 21 and stepped quickly into stakes company, winning the Texas Stallion Stakes at Lone Star less than three weeks later.
Making her first foray into stakes company is Stonewall Stallions Racing’s Babai Baby, who beat seven colts in her debut at Belmont Park July 19 for trainer John Kimmel.
“She’s doing very well,” Kimmel said of the gray or roan daughter of Value Plus who stands just over 16 hands high. “She had a nice breeze the other day (five furlongs in 1:00.23, the best of 32 Aug. 12). She’ll do a paddock schooling session and a gate-standing session and she’s ready to go.”
In addition to Beautician, the only other horse who will run back from the Schuylerville is Westrock Stable’s Decelerator, who finished sixth in that contest after stumbling at the break. Prior to that, the Dehere filly was 2-for-2 for trainer D. Wayne Lukas, including a win in the Debutante (gr. III) June 27 at Churchill Downs.
Completing the field in the Adirondack are Golden Dome Stable’s Worship the Moon; Klaravich Stables’ Worstcasescenario; Michael J. Ryan’s Marabelle; Jerry Romans’ Sassy Image and Cobra Farm’s Magic Appeal.
