F-T New York-Bred Sale Struggles at Start

The Fasig-Tipton New York-bred preferred yearling sale got off to a rocky start Aug. 15 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The gross revenue dropped 41.7% from a year ago while the average and median prices both plunged 47.1%. The buy-back rate was 54.3% compared to 52.5% in 2008.

A Roman Ruler  filly was the highest-priced horse sold, bringing $115,000 from Anthony Tufaro. The bay yearling is the second foal produced from the 9-year-old winning Boston Harbor mare Sovereignoftheseas, who is a half-sister to Prioress Stakes (gr. I) winner Carson Hollow (by Carson City).

Francis and Barbara Vanlangendonck’s Summerfield operation consigned the filly as agent.

Two other yearlings sold for six-figure prices. A Johannesburg – Christina’s Melody filly brought $107,000 from Three Colleens Stable. Thomas J. Gallo III Sales Agency consigned the gray or roan yearling as agent. An El Corredor  – Dancing Prism colt went to New Jersey bloodstock agent Buzz Chace for $100,000. Craig and Holly Bandoroff’s Denali Stud consigned the dark bay or brown yearling as agent.

The second and final session of the New York-bred auction is scheduled for Aug. 16, beginning at 7 p.m. (EDT).
