(Edited Arqana press release)

A Pivotal filly topped the second session of Arqana’s Deauville August yearling sale, bringing €300,000 ($427,722 in U.S. funds) Aug. 15 in France. Sheikh Mohammed’s bloodstock manager, John Ferguson, purchased the filly from Capucines.

The chestnut yearling is the first foal produced from the 7-year-old Rainbow Quest mare Relais d’Aumale, who scored in the 2004 Prix Isonomy in France and finished second in the 2005 Premio Alberto Zanoletti di Rozzano in Italy.

In all, 77 horses were sold during the second session, grossing €9,385,000 ($13,380,570) and averaging €121,883 ($173,773). The clearance rate was 73.3%. Compared to last year, when 78 horses were sold, the gross was down 8.1%. The average fell 6.9%.

The gross for private sales this year was €483,500 ($689,345).
